Our Story

Scenic Art Studios was founded in 1994 by Master Scenic Artist and Tony Honors recipient Joseph Forbes.

Since its inception, the company has cultivated a reputation for artistic excellence, providing the highest level of craftsmanship for over 350 Broadway productions. Recent productions include Moulin Rouge! The Musical, Beetlejuice, The Prom, Carousel, School of Rock, Dirty Dancing, and The Band's Visit.

After 25 years in the entertainment industry, Scenic Art Studios has grown to employ upwards of fifty scenic artists across five locations on a given day. Our customizable crews handle everything from carving, to murals, to on-site work calls.

Within our 15,000 sq. foot studio in Newburgh, NY, and associated shops throughout the tri-state region, Scenic Art Studios specializes in producing theatrical backdrops, built scenery, architectural/decorative treatments, and more. Our work can not only be seen in theater, but across film, television, and specialty venues as well.
